MORE THAN $63,000 RAISED AT SIXTH ANNUAL CHANGING LIVES THROUGH LITERACY GOLF TOURNAMENT
DALLAS (March 15, 2005) – The Sixth
annual Changing Lives Through Literacy Golf Tournament was a
huge success, raising more than $63,000 for Vickery Meadow Learning
Center. The event, held on October 16, 2004 at the Dallas Athletic
Club, was a great success, with 141 golfers hitting the links.
Medical City Dallas, again, led the way as presenting sponsor. New
Gold Sponsors included Presbyterian Hospital and Austin Industries.
The hot, beautiful weather helped, but it was the great cause, the
competition and the prizes that made for an enjoyable day.
The Urban Nissan team, captained by
Stacy Urban, won the team event on the Gold Course, while the
Capitol Grille team, captained by Greg Cavanagh won on the Blue
Course. Stacy's team included Dan McGiboney, Jeff Mayhall and Monte
Norvell. Greg's team was comprised of Jeff Mallett, Justin Fraley
and Steve Hancock.
This year’s inaugural $1,000 Cash
Chip and Putt Contest, sponsored by Dr. Ted Moore, was won by Brian
Powell. Ted Kopinski finished second and Bill Bywaters came in
third.
The post-tournament dinner on the
lawn included a live Mariachi band and a grand silent auction. The
Mexican Fiesta Dinner was followed by a lively auction that included
sports memorabilia, travel opportunities and participation
opportunities. This year’s event will, again, be held at DAC on
Monday, October 24, 2005.
