MORE THAN $50,000 RAISED AT FOURTH ANNUAL CHANGING LIVES THROUGH LITERACY GOLF TOURNAMENT

DALLAS (November 26, 2002) – The fourth annual Changing Lives Through Literacy Charity Golf Tournament was a smashing success raising more than $50,000 in support of Vickery Meadow Leaning Center. The event, presented by Medical City Dallas, was held on Monday, November 4, 2002 at the Dallas Athletic Club. DAC made available both the championship Blue and Gold courses, made famous by Jack Nicklaus who won the 1963 PGA Championship on the Gold Course and led the redesign efforts of both courses in 1983. These courses are among the best in north Texas, and usually are not open to non-members for play.

On the course, golfers enjoyed the advice of PGA Teaching Professional J.C. Anderson, who was on-hand to provide humorous golf tips and support for each participant. Inside the club, everyone participated in the live auction and raffle, and enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner. Longtime Dallas/Fort Worth talk radio personality Kevin McCarthy was this year’s tournament emcee. You can hear McCarthy on WBAP radio as co-host of the Jerry Reynolds Auto Advice Show. The event auctioneer, Dean McCurry, did a fine job of instigating competition among bidders for several exciting auction items to help raise funds for VMLC.

The VMLC Board of Directors, the Golf Tournament Committee, and the students of VMLC express deep gratitude to each and every person and sponsor who participated in the success of this event. Your efforts made a difference.
