VETERAN WBAP TALK RADIO HOST KEVIN MCCARTHY TO EMCEE AT FOURTH ANNUAL
CHANGING LIVES THROUGH LITERACY GOLF TOURNAMENT

DALLAS (September 26, 2002) – Long time Dallas/Fort Worth talk radio personality, WBAP’s Kevin McCarthy, has signed on to emcee at the fourth annual Changing Lives Through Literacy Golf Tournament, presented by Medical City Dallas. This year’s tournament, held on the award-winning Blue and Gold courses at Dallas Athletic Club, will kick off with a shotgun start on November 4, 2002, and will benefit Vickery Meadow Learning Center in support of its mission to eradicate illiteracy among English-as-a-second language adults. The last three tournaments netted more than $125,000 in much-needed funds.

McCarthy, a long time local advocate of education, is a five-time winner of the Dallas Press Club’s prestigious Katie Award for Best Talk Show in Texas, and was the Reunion Arena voice of the Dallas Mavericks for 20 years.

“I started out reading comic books, and then quickly moved on to the joys of the Hardy Boys and the sports pages of newspapers,” McCarthy said. “Reading is one of the greatest pleasures of my life, and I am delighted to be of assistance to the Vickery Meadow Learning Center in its mission.”

The golf tournament features a “four man scramble” tournament format, a professional golf clinic and a cocktail reception, as well as a buffet dinner and a live and silent auction. Auction items include a week-long stay at one of several available ski resorts, a Fina stunt plane ride, a French Impressionist-style painting, and autographed biographies of President George H. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. Registration begins at 9:45 a.m., followed by the golf clinic at 10:45 a.m.

Complimentary barbeque lunch will be provided by Red, Hot & Blue. The reception, buffet and auction will begin at
5:00 p.m.

The tournament registration deadline is October 10, 2002. Registration fees are $1,000 per foursome or $250 per person. Dinner and auction tickets only are available for $50 per couple or $30 per person.
