Classes
Our
English language classes are the very core of what we do at VMLC.
Our eager students and dedicated volunteer teachers
return day after day and semester after semester to help us fulfill our mission. All of our programs are offered from
September (fall semester) through April (spring semester). VMLC takes the same holidays as
the Dallas Independent School District.
All non-native English speaking persons living in the Vickery
Meadow neighborhood of Dallas who need English lanugage assistance are
eligible for our programs. If you are unsure whether you live in the serviced area, please call
us at (214) 265-5057. Or, if you prefer,
click here to fill out our feedback form. Typically, the area covered lies between Northwest Highway, Royal Lane,
Central Expressway and Abrams / Skillman (or the 75231 ZIP code).
Prospective students can enter our programs at any time during the school year if there is space
available at the level they need. If there is no space available, prospective students
must wait until the next registration date which is available
upon request in the VMLC Program Office. Due to the overwhelming demand,
we are not able to keep a waiting list, so registration occurs
on a first come, first served basis and
must be performed in person at the center. For directions to the center, please

Programs offered:
Morning Family Literacy Classes: Designed primarily for
stay-at-home moms and adults who have to
be at work in the afternoons and evenings.
The program meets Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Each week, a new topic relevant
to everyday living is taught by caring, supportive volunteer tutors. Before each semester, the
adult students are tested on their level of language proficiency, and then are placed in one of three
levels of English classes beginner, intermediate and advanced so they can learn at their
own pace. The same curriculum is taught in our Morning,
Afternoon, and Evening English Language Classes.
Children ages 0 to 4 years old of our morning
adult students are eligible to enroll in our Pre-Kindergarten
Education Children's Program described below.

Pre-Kindergarten English Education:
Children ages 0 to 4 years old of our morning
and afternoon adult students are eligible to enroll in our
Pre-Kindergarten Education Program for the preschool-aged children of the
daytime adult learners. While the adults are learning English in order to have a better life, the children
are being taught English language skills essential to preparing them
for elementary school. The synergy between our adult and
child classes is one of VMLC's signatures and helps promote
education and life-long learning for whole families and the
entire community.

Evening Workplace Literacy Classes: Designed primarily for
adults who work during the day. This
program does not have a Pre-Kindergarten English Education component.
But, like the Morning and Afternoon Classes, it is offered on three different
proficiency levels beginner, intermediate and advanced – on
Monday through Thursday evenings
from 7:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. This is the most popular of all the programs offered at VMLC. The curriculum is identical to the morning and afternoon programs
with a stronger emphasis on workplace vocabulary.

Adult Citizenship Classes: Offered on an "as needed" basis. To be a candidate for this program,
prospective students must be able to read and speak some English. Students also must have a
letter from the CIS stating that they are candidates for citizenship. These classes are offered at
the convenience of the student and the tutor.
If you are interested in signing up for one of these classes, please come by VMLC at 6329
Ridgecrest. Click here for
